Learn about The Lost River Company

Over a decade ago, Ted and Toni Harvey had a vision for a venture that combined their life’s work with their passion for people and their stories.  A vision that brought to life their fascination with intricate detail, design, and building. A vision that allowed them to help establish and shape a community while helping others and giving back to that very community.

In 2005, the Harvey's chose to lay down more permanent roots in Lost River, West Virginia, where they had a weekend home for many years. They purchased The Inn at Lost River and The Lost River General Store, a historic property.

In 2006, the Harveys brought their vision to life and launched The Lost River Company. Today, The Lost River Company operates The Lost River General Store, The Inn at Lost River. According to both Ted and Toni, the mission is simple -- "to deliver an exceptional experience in absolutely everything that we do." "We're a small business with big values."

The Lost River Company has received numerous awards and recognitions including 101 Unique Places to Dine in West Virginia, Hardy County Business of the Year, Trip Advisor Award of Excellence and features in publications such as WVLiving and The State Journal.

Meet Ted. Ted’s military career of 28 years included duty with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam; 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, NC; The 1st Infantry Division in Germany; The Old Guard at Fort Myer, VA; United States Forces Korea in Seoul, South Korea; and The Department of Defense at the Pentagon. Upon his retirement from the military, Ted was named President of Executive Apartments, Inc., a full-service apartment rental agency for government contractors and agencies.  A life-long lover of jazz and big bands, Ted has played the saxophone for most of his life.  In his spare time Ted directed and played in  the Difficult Run Jazz Band, an 18-piece big band in the Washington DC area. Storied career and musical talents aside, Ted's love for life and fun-loving spirit is infectious. He is loved by everyone who crosses his path.

Next to every great man, there’s a remarkable woman. As an Army brat and wife, Toni spent the majority of her life immersed in military communities. Throughout her career, Toni worked for Marriott Corporation, taught continuing education in ceramics for which she was featured on The Discovery Channel, launched a custom framing business, A Frame of Mind, and maintained an exclusive list of interior design clients in the Washington DC area.  An artist to her core, Toni holds an MFA in ceramics and is a skilled potter, photographer, basket weaver, conversationalist, and interior designer. In her spare time, Toni dedicates herself to volunteering for the betterment of Lost River, largely in the travel, education and arts space. Looking to tell your story? Toni makes everyone feel as though their story is the most important.
